Tunisian actress, director and producer Afef Ben Mahmoud dashed into a rich artistic career from an early age, initially as a dancer and then as an actress through numerous television, theater and films. She held lead roles under major Tunisian directors, including Nouri Bouzid’s Making Of and lately in Streams by Mehdi Hmili, receiving awards for Best Actress at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2021, then at Vues d'Afrique and at Pluriel.les in 2023. Recently Afef created Mésanges Films and produced Bouzid's latest film, The Scarecrows, in which she also plays a lead role. The film had its world premiere in the official selection at the 2019 Venice Film Festival. Afef is currently in post-production of her first feature, Backstage co-directed with Khalil Benkirane and in which she plays a lead role. Afef obtained Master’s in Economics and Management, in Directing and Screenwriting followed by a MAS in Image Design.
