In a region rich with stories and voices seeking innovative platforms, The Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) proudly introduces The Spark Series (TSS), a brand-new program under the umbrella of Amman Film Industry Days (AFID). TSS marks a first initiative of its kind in the Arab world to spotlight web series as a powerful tool of short, unexpensive yet impactful and accessible storytelling.
Over two days, selected series will be screened for an audience of filmmakers, distributors, producers and industry professionals, offering creators a unique opportunity for exposure, connection and further development. As well as, discussing with international experts production & development of quality web series.
The program is curated by Muriel Aboulrouss, an award-winning and pioneer cinematographer in the region. With over 25 years of experience, she is known for her work on web series (Emmy winner “Shankaboot” and “Ziyara”) as well as on films (such as “Stray Bullet” and “Marcedes”). Speaking about the initiative, Aboulrouss said: “A web series is not just a format; it’s a spark. It reveals your talent, your cinematic language and your path as an artist.”
Submissions are now open for web series produced in 2024 or 2025, with a minimum of three episodes, each ranging between 3–10 minutes. Directors must be of Arab nationality or background. All genres are welcome, including fiction, documentary, experimental or animation and entries must include English subtitles. Promotional materials (poster, stills, and trailer) are required upon submission.
This is where visibility begins. This is where stories ignite. This is where you spark!
On another note, submissions to all other sections of the Festival are closed now. Films and projects are currently under review and the selection will be announced by the beginning of June.
