Tunisian actor and director Dhaffer L’Abidine and Egyptian actress and singer Bushra Rozza will hold masterclasses during the fifth Amman International Film Festival (AIFF), held between 3 and 11 July.
Other masterclasses at the festival will be held by Hiam Abbass, Alana Hadid, and Mounir Atallah.
The first masterclass in the series of meetings with prominent filmmakers and industry professionals will take place on 4 July and will feature L’Abidine and Rozza.
The two artists will share their journeys in the acting world. “This open dialogue will cover the challenges they faced at the start of their careers, how they handled rejection and the importance of choosing roles that align with their professional goals,” reads the festival’s press release.
The masterclass that will take place the following day, on 5 July, will be conducted by the internationally renowned Palestinian actress and director Hiam Abbass.
Moderated by journalist Jihene Al Turki, the masterclass will focus on Abbass’ journey in the film industry, from her early beginnings to becoming an international actress.
“The discussion will cover the art of acting, overcoming challenges, choosing meaningful roles, and the importance of advocating for causes through art,” the organizers said.
The final masterclass will take place on 8 July, featuring fashion designer Alana Hadid and writer and filmmaker Munir Atallah.
Both Palestinian-American artists are part of the US-based Watermelon Pictures, a film production and distribution company rooted in Palestinian culture and creativity.
While presenting the Watermelon Pictures, Hadid and Atallah will talk about how the company aims to empower the marginalized voices.
The 2024 Amman International Film Festival line-up includes a total of 53 films from 28 producing and co-producing countries, featuring a mix of Arab and international feature-length narratives and documentaries as well as Arab short films.
