August 5, 2020UNVEILING THE TROPHY & POSTER OF AMMAN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL – AWAL FILM, February 17, 2020.
August 5, 2020Submissions to the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film (AIFF) close on the 31st of January 2020. The submissions can still be made for the following three categories: Arab Competition, International Section and the pitching platforms of Amman Film Industry Days.
For its Arab competitive category, the inaugural edition of the AIFF is accepting feature-length narrative films, feature-length documentaries and short films. The submissions will be
competing over the Black Iris Award; all submissions will be judged by a high-profile international jury in the world of cinema. The non-competitive international category is dedicated to non-Arab début films; it will also include a “First & Latest” film section. The inaugural edition of AIFF will take place from the 13th until the 18th April 2020.
In order to be eligible, films have to be released in 2019 or 2020 and be Jordanian premières. Documentaries and short films (non-documentaries) have to be done by first-time directors in the category. A feature-length narrative is eligible if it has a first-time director, scriptwriter, editor, Director of Photography (DoP) or lead actor/actress attached to it.
So far, AIFF has received around 550 submissions to its Arab competitions and international section.
Amman Film Industry Days (AFID) will take place from the 15th until the 17th of April 2020, and will host masterclasses, seminars and workshops with renowned film professionals and institutions. AFID will also be organising two pitching platforms, providing support to Jordanian and Arab resident filmmakers in Jordan whose feature-length films are in development, another platform to provide support to all Arab filmmakers whose feature-length films are in post-production.
Up to 15 projects will be selected and filmmakers will pitch their projects to industry professionals attending AFID, whereby the best projects will receive cash and/or in-kind awards to help them advance in the materialisation of their films.
