THE FEVER

Synopsis: Justino, a 45-year-old member of the indigenous Desana people, is a security guard at the harbour of Manaus, a Brazilian city surrounded by the rainforests of Amazon. As his daughter prepares to study medicine in Brasilia, Justino comes down with a mysterious fever. Meanwhile, his brother’s visit makes Justino remember the life in the forest, from where he left twenty years ago. Between the oppression of the city and his remote native village in the forest, Justino can no longer endure an existence without place.

Director’s biography: Maya Da-Rin is a filmmaker and visual artist. She received her Master’s degree in Cinema and Art History in France. Her work has been shown in film festivals and art institutions throughout the world. Her 2010 documentary “Terras” (Lands) was shown at over forty film festivals; her first feature film, “The Fever” was selected for the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation.
