A SON

Synopsis: Less than a year after the fall of Ben Ali’s regime, driving home from a family vacation in the summer of 2011, Fares, Meriem and their 10-year-old son Aziz -  a wealthy and privileged Tunisian family - face a disaster when a stray bullet strikes their car during an armed group ambush. Aziz’s liver is punctured, and he finds himself in a local hospital, with an urgent need for a blood transplant. As their world falls apart, the delicacies of the couple’s shifting emotions are tested when a dark family secret is revealed. 


Director’s biography: Born in 1984 and raised in Tunisia, Mehdi Barsaoui is a graduate of the Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of Tunis and holds a degree in film direction from DAMS in Bologna, Italy. He has directed three short films to date. “We’re Just Fine Like This” won the Golden Muhr for Best Film in Dubai in 2016. His international career begins with “A Son”, his debut feature-length narrative, selected at the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
