YOUSRY NASARALLAH

Yousry Nasrallah is an Egyptian filmmaker. He graduated in economics and political science from Cairo University. Following, he worked as a film critic in the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir from 1978 to 1982 and as an Assistant Director to Volker Schlomdorff for his award-winning movie “Circle of Deceit” filmed in Beirut. He became an assistant to Youssef Chahine, whose company “Misr International Films” would go on to produce his early films. Nasrallah’s films were selected in Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and Locarno film festivals. His 2012 film “After the Battle” competed for the “Palme d'Or” at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, while “El Medina” and “Brooks, Meadows and Lovely Faces” were nominated for the Golden Leopard at Locarno International Film Festival in 1999 and 2016. His other works include: 2022 “Welcome Home” (mini-series 10 episodes), 2011 “18 Days”, 2009 “Scheherazade Tell Me a Story”, 2008 “The Aquarium”, 2004 “Bab el Shams”, 1995 “On Boys, Girls and the Veil” (documentary), 1993 “Mercedes” and 1988 “Summer Thefts” which competed in the Directors’ Fortnight section in Cannes Film Festival. Nasrallah was a jury member in several International Film Festivals, the last being Head of Jury for the Short Film Competition in Cannes in 2022.
