Amin Matalqa

Amin Matalqa was born and raised in Jordan, then Ohio in the USA, and has been living in Los Angeles for the past 21 years. After graduating from the American Film Institute with an MFA in Directing in 2007, his first feature film Captain Abu Raed won the Sundance Film Festival World Audience Award in 2008, and became Jordan’s first Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. His next film was Walt Disney Studio’s first Arabic language feature, the soccer drama, The United starring Farouk Al-Fishawy and Waleed Zuaiter. This was followed by the romantic comedy, Strangely In Love featuring Amanda Plummer (Pulp Fiction); and the action adventure, The Rendezvous, starring Stana Katic (Castle). In television, Amin wrote on and directed episodes of the Netflix supernatural show, Jinn. Most recently, he directed Sony’s 5000 Blankets starring Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect). Amin is an alumnus of the ABC/DGA TV Directors program and teaches directing at the American Film Institute and Elon University between films.
