Synopsis: The Belo Monte Dam, one of the world’s biggest and most controversial infrastructure projects, is causing massive ecological and social devastation along Brazil’s Xingu River. The film covers this mythic and brutalised world to encounter some of its most vulnerable and inspiring inhabitants.
Director’s biography: For Montreal-based filmmaker Rogério Soares, the Amazon is his soul home. He first moved to the Amazon at the age of 18 after hearing his father’s many tales of endless rivers as big as the sea. Rogério’s deep love and understanding of the Amazon’s fragility and complexity, as well as its people, is at the heart of his first feature documentary “River Silence”.
