Ajitpal Singh

Ajitpal Singh is a self-taught filmmaker based in Mumbai. Born in Punjab, he was a young boy when his father’s cinema in Bathinda suffered major losses during the 1980s and '90s insurgency. The family was forced to relocate to a ghetto in Ahmedabad, where they lived amid poverty and violence. Singh overcame these early challenges to study chemistry, theatre and photography, eventually choosing filmmaking as his creative path. His debut feature, β€œFire in the Mountains” (2021), premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema competition. The film screened at over 30 international festivals, winning multiple awards, including the Black Iris Award for Best Non-Arab Feature at the Amman International Film Festival. It was theatrically released in North America by Kino Lorber in 2022. Singh also directed β€œTabbar” (2021) for SonyLIV and is currently developing a new series and action film set in Punjab.
